Ominous, embalmer’s grease – medium hold oil based pomade

Ominous Style Co. Embalmer's Grease Medium Pomade 4oz

THE COMPANY

Ominous style co is a grooming brand out of Virgina by Nic Donini. He brewed handmade all natural pomades.

Co is no longer in existence.

POMADE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Ominous style co’s medium hold. Comes in a 4 oz (113 g) tin with stickers. The pomade’s color is light yellow.

INGREDIENTS

Hydrogenated castor oil, lanolin, coconut oil, beeswax, jojoba oil, soy wax, shea butter, vitamin E oil, almond oil, essential oils.

Nic Donini calls this his ‘morgue scent’. I smell a herbal aroma, fresh eucalyptus, a bit patchouli. The pomaderev (reviewer) is more accurate, he smelled vetiver, cedar, rosemary and patchouli. In the tin: overpowering, unfresh, dirty (‘morgue’) bit don’t worry, it’s not bad! In the hair: not overpowering, no dirty smell anymore for me. Just noticed its scent a few times, just very subtle throughout the day as a somewhat fresh, minty aroma. Scent does not linger all day. I really dig this!

STYLING PROCESS

My hair: I’ve medium thick, wavy hair. I wear a side part with a contour.

My styling equipment: at the moment, I’m using a brush with wild boar hair, a Denman brush plus a wide tooth comb (detangler). During styling, I use brushes most.

Application: damp hair. 3 normal sized scoops in the hair.

Scooping: solid surface. Scooping out needs some pressure, there’s ribboning.

Breakdown: has an oily, waxy, sticky texture that becomes creamy mixing in your hands using some power.

Working in: goes in easy (no tugging or pull) like a medium but don’t use too much (could weigh hair down): less is more! Spreading evenly is easy.

Combing back: there’s some tension, but alright for a firm. Changing the director of the hair to the side: with some resistance.

Control: gives a solid, sticky grip. When combing (Denman brush): tug, pull nearly non-existant. Tames waves, sides, cowlicks very well. Nice clean hairdo without annoying flyaways, slick and neat. Great height.

SHINE

Medium, all day long.

HOLD

On the tin you’ll read: medium hold pomade. But, this is more than a medium; more a firm. Nic loves heavier pomades and this one reflects that.

ENDURANCE

After the initial styling, hair maintains shape perfectly: no strays, no flyaways will pop up, hair goes nowhere! Holds hair in place the whole day and straightens waves, controls cowlicks, holds the sides down nice (just a bit of cleaning up), no splitting in the front or elsewhere. Heavy wind, rain, cycling or a walk don’t mess up things. Didn’t test in the heat but this pomade survives for sure. End of the day: few flyaways, few strays, (nearly) no sagging. Light weight, soft and not that greasy feel.

RESTYLING

No problem. No loss of hold! Waves don’t come through, sides held down. No resistance when restyling (Denman brush). I didn’t need to recomb most of the time being honest!

BUILD UP

Strong build up. Days after: 1 or 2 more licks. Don’t use too much: the build up combined with a hair tonic provides great styling.

WASH OUT

Need around 3 shampoos to wash out with shampoo. After the rinse: healthy, soft, conditioned hair.
