POMADE IN THE SPOTLIGHT
I’m going to review the pomade of their line. Its base is lanolin, a fat from sheep wool. How do they obtain this fat to use it? Wool grease is extracted from wool by washing it and then to evaporate the water.
The pomade is made with the aid of barbers.
I don’t know a good deal of other lanolin based pomades, except for: Jusincredible cutz, Jägership by Flagship and All the kings men oil based pomades. I will categorize it under ‘oil based’ for the convenience.
Comes in a tin (4 oz/113 g). You can find it in a pocket size as well. Pomade’s color is dark yellow.
INGREDIENTS (Minus the latin)
Lanolin, beeswax, almond oil, castor seed oil, jojoba seed oil, argan oil, bergamot oil, sandalwood oil, patchouli oil.
SCENT
Bergamot, sandalwood and patchouli blend into an aroma of fresh pine wood, tobacco and lemons. According to my nose: a citrus alike scent, reasonable strong in the tin. During my day, I sniffed some subtle whiffs. I really love the scent and its balance.
STYLING PROCESS
My hair: I’ve medium thick, wavy hair. I wear a side part with a contour.
My styling equipment: I used a wide tooth comb plus a brush with wild boar hair. Use brushes mostly.
Application: 4 scoops in damp hair.
Scooping: goes easy.
Breakdown: you feel a sticky and greasy consistency. Some resistance to break down. According to your shiny hands, this is gonna to be a shiny pomade
Working in: little tension. Spreads easily through the hair with few resistance.
Combing back: I use a Denman brush to facilitate the combing process.gives minor tug.
Control: there’s a good grip because of the stickiness. My hair is wavy and from the beginning, my waves were tamed . The pomade laid down the sides and cowlicks great. Styling went smooth. Got an okay height plus a slick, neat coiffure. Just a few small flyaways and strays present.
SHINE
On the tin you read it has ‘lots of shine’ and indeed that’s true! Keeps this sheen all day long.
HOLD
On the tin: ‘lots of hold’. Categorized as a medium to strong hold. Yes, that’s what I experienced.
ENDURANCE
Hair kept nice shape all day. Tiny bit of sag, some waves coming through a bit but the overall shape remained intact. Cowlicks, sides were held down perfectly. No splits in the hair front. Some flyaways and strays. I had a bicycle ride with temperatures around 70° F (21° C), scarce sun, moderate wind and a bit of rain: hair kept shape! This declined much of my uncertainties around the pomade’s medium-strong hold. Too greasy feel for my taste.
RESTYLING
Restyles easy because it’s a non-drying, non-hardening product. No resistance at all as you comb it through. Hold weakened a bit, some waves came through.
BUILD UP
Some stickiness plus greasy. Washing the hair with little shampoo softened up the pomade and I got very manageable hair. Building up on wet hair gave me a steadier and more secure hold, more straightened out hair than on damp hair the day before.
WASH OUT
Around 3 washes for a complete removal. Soft and healthy hair after the rinse due to the very healthy ingredients.
